Streamlining the travel and booking processes with Laserfiche
A successful international carrier broke into new global markets with help from Laserfiche.
When Virgin Atlantic Airlines of Great Britain launched Virgin Blue Airlines to offer domestic
flights in Australia, it chose Laserfiche to support its initiative of instantly scanning and
retrieving passenger data. Virgin Blue has since become Australia’s second-largest airline and
has expanded its flight service, offering overseas flights directly, through subsidiary
airlines, or through partnership agreements.
The keys to Virgin Blue’s success are an efficient online booking operation, which generates
PDF itineraries that double as tickets, and a single, centralized database that stores all
passenger information. Laserfiche maintains each customer’s details in a secure repository by
reading bar codes placed on all important documents. Laserfiche products also interact with
Virgin Blue’s reservation and process system, allowing for rapid cross-checking of passenger
data and reporting.
“As soon as the door closes on any flight, we know how much money is on that flight,” says Nick
Brant, the head of IT at Virgin Blue in Australia. “Many older airlines with legacy systems
can’t see those results for months.”
