Laserfiche is hiring for a Director of Software Engineering to lead the delivery of high‑value software releases while building and scaling a new engineering organization in a new geographic region. This Director provides strategic and technical leadership, establishes a strong local engineering culture, and ensures alignment with global company strategy. The Director is responsible for launching and growing a new office, hiring and developing a high‑performing team, and integrating the new location into Laserfiche’s broader engineering ecosystem. They will be a key representative of the company’s technological efforts, and strengthen Laserfiche’s market presence, maximizing the impact of each product release.
About the Role - Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Vision
- Provide executive leadership and oversight across all Development teams’ initiatives.
- Contribute to the formulation and execution of Laserfiche’s global business and technology strategy.
- Partner with the company leadership to define technical vision and long‑term roadmap.
- Advance departmental objectives—short, medium, and long term—that align with company strategy.
- Study industry trends and emerging technologies to strengthen Laserfiche’s technology leadership.
- Reinforce a culture that values engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Building a New Engineering Hub
- Lead the establishment of a new engineering office in Ireland, including operational setup, local processes, and cultural foundations.
- Build and scale a new engineering team from the ground up, ensuring alignment with global engineering standards and practices.
- Develop a strong local leadership pipeline and mentor emerging leaders within the new office.
- Establish a cohesive, collaborative environment that integrates seamlessly with existing engineering teams across regions.
- Ensure the new office becomes a center of excellence that contributes meaningfully to product innovation and delivery.
- Navigate regional regulatory, cultural, and talent‑market considerations to ensure successful long‑term operations.
Product & Technology Execution
- Ensure regular, high‑quality product releases that deliver measurable value to customers and support new customer acquisition.
- Promote an agile, high‑velocity development lifecycle across teams.
- Continuously refine development processes to eliminate waste and accelerate innovation.
- Establish and maintain engineering standards, best practices, and tooling to enhance productivity.
- Encourage advancements in testing methodologies to improve release velocity and reliability.
- Ensure a strong user experience by incorporating insights from user interviews and feedback.
- Implement a rigorous performance management framework that includes clear expectations, structured reviews, and accountability for results.
- Maintain a high‑talent‑density organization by identifying and developing top performers while decisively addressing sustained underperformance.
- Build a culture of excellence where engineers are empowered to do their best work and where low performance is addressed promptly and constructively.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with feature teams and cross‑functional leaders to ensure success of strategic initiatives.
- Coordinate engineering priorities with market research and customer needs.
- Support adoption of products across industry‑specific use cases.
- Work with other department heads to identify and implement technologies that improve organizational efficiency.
- Foster internal adoption of new product functionality.
- Ensure smooth communication and alignment between geographically distributed teams.
Organizational Leadership & Talent Development
- Coach, mentor, and motivate engineering staff, supporting their professional and technical growth—including modern DevOps skills and operational ownership.
- Build and scale a high‑performing engineering organization by attracting, assessing, and hiring top talent.
- Implement a disciplined performance management framework with clear expectations, structured reviews, and consistent accountability.
- Maintain a high‑talent‑density team by identifying and developing top performers while proactively addressing sustained underperformance.
- Make decisive staffing decisions that strengthen team capability, including transitioning out individuals who do not meet performance standards.
- Foster a culture of excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement, including shared responsibility for code quality, deployment health, and operational outcomes.
- Develop a strong leadership pipeline by mentoring emerging leaders and empowering them to take on greater responsibility.
- Ensure workspaces and environments support productive, collaborative software engineering work.
- Promote a culture of inclusion, collaboration, and continuous learning across geographically distributed teams.
Operational Excellence
- Promote transparency by communicating development progress, operational health, and key DevOps metrics.
- Establish a strong DevOps culture focused on collaboration, automation, reliability, and continuous improvement.
- Define, monitor, and act on critical DevOps KPIs—such as deployment frequency, lead time for changes, change failure rate, and mean time to recovery—to drive measurable improvements in delivery performance.
- Guide technical decision‑making to optimize time, quality, and operational efficiency.
- Oversee engineering support for SaaS system performance, reliability, and operational readiness, ensuring teams adopt DevOps best practices for observability, incident response, and root‑cause analysis.
- Ensure the department can provide timely assistance for unexpected software issues affecting customers, supported by strong on‑call processes and operational playbooks.
- Coordinate company‑wide efforts for new product initiatives with an emphasis on operational scalability and maintainability.
- Review vendor agreements, including those related to cloud infrastructure like SLAs, CI/CD tooling, and monitoring platforms.
- Act as a responsible steward of departmental resources and manage development and operational expenses effectively.
- Participate in special projects as needed.
External Representation
- Represent Laserfiche’s engineering efforts to customers, prospects, resellers, analysts, and partners.
- Support community education initiatives to help customers realize value from new releases.
- Foster alignment on licensing terms and ensure updates to end‑user license agreements and enforcement mechanisms.
- Strengthen the company’s presence and reputation in the new geographic region through community engagement, partnerships, and industry involvement.
About You - Essential Qualifications:
- 10–20 years of software development experience, including leadership roles.
- Experience launching or scaling an engineering office in a new geographic region.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- 10+ years of product development experience, from concept through launch.
- Deep knowledge of software engineering principles, methodologies, and Agile/Scrum practices.
- Proven experience building or scaling engineering teams, ideally including distributed or international teams.
- Strong analytical and estimation skills, with excellent judgment around scope and prioritization.
- Experience developing technology strategy and managing dynamic product roadmaps.
- Ability to think and act strategically, with a proactive and structured approach to problem‑solving.
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
- Demonstrated success collaborating with engineers, QA, UX, product managers, technical writers, and support teams.
- Strong interpersonal and mentoring abilities.
- Ability to attract, evaluate, and hire highly skilled engineering talent in competitive markets.
- Adaptability in a fast‑growing, rapidly evolving environment.
- Proficiency in object‑oriented programming languages (e.g., C#, C++, Java).
- Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies.

The salary range varies, and pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, certifications (if applicable), candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills and years of experience amongst other factors.
- $170,000 - $200,000 per year
